What is Abuse?

Nursing home abuse includes any inappropriate physical contact that harms or is likely to harm a resident, including but not limited to striking, punching, shoving, bumping, or sexually molesting a resident.

Abuse includes:

What is Neglect?

Neglect is a failure to provide timely, competent, safe, adequate and appropriate treatment, service or care. Neglect includes:

  • Failure to assist in personal hygiene
  • Failure to provide appropriate food, clothing, or shelter
  • Failure to provide appropriate medical care for physical or mental health needs
  • Failure to protect from health and safety hazards
  • Failure to prevent or treat malnutrition and dehydration
  • Failure to prevent or treat bedsores
